Outside In: London
16 August - 9 September 2012
CGP London
Outside In: London is the creation of Outside In; an arts organisation based at Pallant House Gallery in Chichester, which provides a platform for artists finding it difficult to access the art world. The competition received submissions from 190 artists living within Greater London which were then narrowed down to eight finalists whose works were on display at CGP London in Southwark Park.
The finalists included Alan Ramdhan, whose intricate drawings and etchings offer photographic recollections of places he has been; Alan Streets, painter of whimsical scenes and Bethlem artist Albert, whose semi-technical architectural drawings depict houses in which he’d like to live. Also selected was Kate Bradbury’s sculpture Admiral Jolly Bob Storm the Third and her infinitely fascinating monochrome drawings, as well as Kim Noble’s multi-figural reflections on living with Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Outside In: London has shown that works by those facing barriers to the art world can hold their own in the stark, contemporary ‘white cube’ space. This autumn, Outside In will launch their National exhibition at Pallant House Gallery; filling the main spaces of a gallery renowned for its modern British works with selected pieces from the competition in an attempt to render the art world more inclusive.
